The ‘Change the Change’ International Conference, which will be held in Donostia/San Sebastián from 6 to 8 March, is set to be one of the main climate change events of the year. The conference is possible thanks to an agreement at all institutional levels: the Basque Government has joined forces with the Spanish Government, through the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, along with Gipuzkoa Provincial Council and San Sebastián City Council. This public commitment is also backed by private sponsorship, led by Iberdrola, which has just confirmed its support for the event.
Iberdrola, an active participant in the different climate summit, is firmly committed to aligning its business strategy with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN. In fact, it is part of the 50 companies in the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders organised by the World Economic Forum.
Its CEO, Ignacio S. Galán, has also undertaken to attend the Change the Change Conference. He will attend the opening ceremony and be on a panel alongside the Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, and the prominent British economist, Nicholas Stern, author of the famous ‘Stern Report’ on the economic impact of climate change and global warming. This opening panel will be introduced by Iñaki Arriola, the Basque Government’s Minister for the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing
Over three days, the Kursaal Conference Centre of Donostia/San Sebastián will showcase the experiences of 50 top-tier speakers, specialists on climate change who will discuss and present the latest advances in this field. Different ‘Heroes and Heroines of the Planet”, people who are tackling climate change in their respective geographical areas of activity, will also be taking part.
The Change the Change Conference will be the most important event of the first Basque Climate Change Week – Asteklima, which will be run in different locations of the Basque Country from 1 to 10 March 2019. There will an extensive calendar of activities for everyone. Iberdrola will also play an active role in Asteklima, with different activities in Bilbao and Donostia/San Sebastián focused on energy use and sustainable mobility, among others.
The aim of Asteklima is to rally the public to make a personal commitment to fight climate change, on the premise that any action, however small, makes a difference.
